Urfan Sharif, father of the Sara Sharif who was found dead in August, was arrested upon arrival in UK along with his wife and brother.
Reports abour the arrest of the trio had first emerged in Pakistan on Wednesday after a month-long manhunt. It was later revealed that the three had been handed over to UK authorities.
British media reported that Sharif, along with his wife, Beanish, and brother, Faisal, were arrested from Gatwick airport by Surrey police as they arrived just after 7:30 pm.
The reports added that they arrived in the UK from Sialkot via Dubai on an Emirates flight.
Olga Sharif, Urfan’s first wife who was mother to Sara, has been informed by the police about the arrest. She said that the news of the arrest felt like a ‘weight had been lifted’ from her shoulders. However, she added that a lot more had to be done before she got ‘closure’.
Around a month ago, Sharif arrived in Pakistan and called 999 in the UK to report that his daughter was dead at his home in Horsell, near Woking. A post-mortem examination found she had suffered “multiple and extensive injuries” over a “sustained and extended” period of time.
While the UK authorities began an investigation, the trio along with five children were hiding in Pakistan.
The children were recently handed over to the child protectin bureau.
