The price of petrol broke the Rs300 per litre mark for the first time in the country’s history on Thursday as the government increased petroleum prices.
The caretaker government announced an increase of Rs14.91 in the price of petrol, taking the price to Rs305.36.
The price of diesel has been increased by Rs18.44 to Rs311.84.

The prices of kerosene and light diesel have not been changed.
The announcement comes hours after a fake notification claimed petrol prices had been raised by Rs22 per litre. The Finance Ministry had to issue a notification calrifying that the decision had not been taken till that point.
The finance division claimed that the prices were increased after oil rose in the international market and the Pakistani rupees depreciated against the US dollar.
Hoever, Ogra documents reveal that the government had increased petroleum development levy on petrol by Rs5 per litre from Rs55 to Rs60.
