The federal government has formally notified an increase in the base tariff for electricity.
A notification issued by the power division says that the base tariff of electricity will go up by Rs7.50 per unit.
The increase will apply from the month of July 2023.
With the latest increase, the base tariff will reach Rs42.72 per unit.
With sales tax added, the per unit price of electricity has gone to Rs50.41.
The government has already clarified that the increases have been made due to the deal with the International Monetary Fund.
“Due to the toughest conditions from the International Monetary Fund, the government had to raise the electricity prices,” Prime Minsiter Shehbaz Sharif recently said.
