The Lahore police arrested the woman who brought the deceased Deputy Inspector General Lahore Shariq Jamal to the hospital on Saturday.
In her statement to the police, the suspect said that DIG Shariq’s health deteriorated after consuming illicit drugs.
The deceased then asked for water and a cold drink, however, his condition worsened after which she brought the DIG Lahore to National Hospital DHA, she added.
Earlier, the deceased’s family refused to register a first information report after the body was handed over to them following postmortem.
Police said that the initial reports of the postmortem suggest that DIG Shariq died of natural circumstances, however, a forensic report will provide more information regarding the circumstance in which he died.
Father of one, DIG Shariq had separated from his wife and was living alone in an apartment, they added.
The Police started the investigation after DIG Shariq was found dead at hisresidence in DHA Lahore early morning.
He was found dead in mysterious circumstances at his residence.
His body was found lifeless in his bedroom by his servants who had been sent out by the deceased.
The family of the deceased reached the hospital along with the police who have started an investigation into the death of its officer.
DIG Shariq served as DIG Traffic and DIG Railways. He was currently serving as Officer on Special Duty and completed his course.
