A police compound in Tehsil Bara of Khyber district was attacked by terrorists on Thursday.
The attack left four policeman martyred and eight others injured.
KP IGP Akhtar Hayat told journalists that two suicide bombers attacked the computer, one from the front gate and the other from the rear. They were gunned down by the police guards, he said.
He also revealed that the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) had tipped off the police about a possible terror attack and that the alert, sent on July 13, helped the police to foil the terror bid.
Hayat said police had obtained DNA samples from the bodies of both terrorists to ascertain their identities.
Earlier reports said that two terrorists managed to get inside the compound.
All nine victims of the bombing were brought to Hayatabad Medical Complex where authorities confirmed the passing of one policeman.
Locals said that they had heard the bang of an explosion followed by gunfire.
A part of the building collapsed due to the explosion and heavy machinery has been deployed to clear the wreckage.
Sources told Aaj News that the compound had been receiving threats of attacks for some time.
