At least six killed including three minors in Lahore, Multan amid heavy downpour

At least six people were killed and several injured in different cities of Punjab as torrential rains hit parts of the country.

Five people including two minors were killed from electrocution in Charar, Defence and Harbanspura areas of Lahore after the second spell of monsoon rains submerged parts of the city.

Deputy Commissioner of Lahore Rafia Haider said the deceased Zubair, 8 and Faizan, 12 were killed from electrocution while Salik Zahir, 10 was injured who was moved to the General Hospital for treatment.

The spokesperson for Rescue 1122 said that a youth, Ijaz was killed from electrocution in Harbanspura; Salman, 32, was killed in Defence area; while an anonymous dweller died of electrocution in Thokar Niaz Baig.

Minor killed after a wall collapsed in Multan

In another instance, a minor was killed after a wall collapsed in Pull Chatha area of Multan, Rescue 1122 said.

The body has been moved to Basic Health Unit in Budhla Sant, Multan, they added.

Another five were injured after the roof of a house collapsed due to heavy rain near Seetal Mari Police Station, Multan, Rescue workers said.

The injured moved to Nishtar Hospital after getting first medical aid, they added.

Rainwater enters houses in Muzaffarabad

The heavy downpour also disrupted daily life as urban flooding turned the roads into ponds while rainwater entered houses in low-lying areas.

The residents of Chehla Bandi area of Muzaffarabad suffered heavy losses after rainwater entered houses. The rooms, kitchens and lawns of the houses were filled with water amid urban flooding.

The residents protested and blocked the Neelum Valley road against the negligence of the authorities.

They said that the authorities did not take precautionary measures during the construction of the roads in the area and the roads were lacking a proper drainage system.

Wall collapsed in Islamabad: 11 construction workers killed

Earlier, a wall collapsed at an under-construction underpass in the Golra Mor area of Islamabad killing at least 11 people amid heavy rains in the twin cities of Islamabad.

Police said that the wall that collapsed was 11 feet tall and almost 100 feet long.

Construction workers employed on the site had put up a tent next to the wall, which crushed them to death when it collapsed during rains.

On July 5, Torrential rain hit Lahore, leading to at least seven deaths across the city. The rains, which broke 30-year-old records, resulted in urban flooding and power outage across the city.
