US thinktank director accused of being Chinese agent

A man serving as co-director to a US thinktank is wanted by American authorities under the suspicion ofbeing a Chinese agent.

The man has been identified as Gal Luft and is said to be a citizen of both United States and Israel. He is listed as the co-director of the Institute for the Analysis of Global Security, a Washington-based think tank.

However, he is accused of being a Chinese agent who tried to sway an advisor to Donald Trump to support pro-China policies. Luft is also accused of getting fake statements attirbuted to the official and publishing them in Chinese media.

Other than that, Luft has been accused of trying to broker multiple deals that he had no license to conduct. The deals included trying to sell Chinese weapons to Libya, UAE and Kenya.

He is also accused of trying to set up a sale of Iranian oil to China despite sanctions by America on the the former’s energy exports.

In February, Luft was said to have been arrested in Cyprus and was set to be extradited to the US. However, he manged to secure bail and fled the country and is still at large while US authorities keep trying to arrest him

In a Tweet around the time, Luft had insisted he was not an ‘arms dealer’.
