Punjab’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority has issued a high alert for flooding after India released 185,000 cusecs of water into Pakistan’s reivers on Sunday.
PDMA’s spokesman said that the water was released through the Ujh barrage into river Ravi.
The authority’s records said that India released 173,000 cusecs of water last year as well of which 60,000 cusecs flowed to Jassar. The water’s flow had led to a low level flood in the area.
The PDMA said it expects that 65,000 cusecs of water could flow into Pakistan over the next 20-24 hours.
Districts along the Ravi had been instructed to stay prepared to deal with any emergencies. These distrcits have also been told to prepare relief camps in advance and keep rescue teams on alert.
