One of the world’s leading publications has included Karachi in a list of 10 least livable cities in the world.
British magazine The Economist recently published it’s Livability Index for the year 2023. The list ranks living conditions in a city across five categories: stability, health care, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.

Out of a total of 173 countries ranked, Karachi is ranked 169 meaning only four countries are worse than Pakistanis biggest city to live in.
The list ranked the cities out of 100 in each of the five categories to get an average index. Most cities from developed countries that were ranked well scored near 100, with the top four cities ranking a full 100 points in atleast 3 categories.
However, Karachi’s index came to a measly 42.5, meaning that not even half of the required living standards are available to the city.
Karachi had a very good score of 75 in terms of education. It scored 50 in healthcare and 51.8 in Infrastructure.
However, what was once called the city of lights scored only 38.7 in culture and environment. And worse of all, it s stability score stood at only 20.
