PM includes COAS on apex committee for economic revival

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formed a ‘Special Investment Facilitation Council’ made up of the country’s highest officials to attract investment into the country.

The council has been split into three tiers called the Apex Committee, the Executive Committee and the Implementation Committee. The council will work on attracting investment from the gulf countries.

The Apex committee is the highest tier and inlcudes the prime minister, provincial chief ministers, ministers for planning, finance, IT, food security, poer, water, industries and defence.

The highest committee also includes the army chief and the national coordinator of the army. The notification issued for the council says that the army chief has been included by ‘special invitation’.

The executive committee includes the federal minister for planning, defence, IT and power and state minister for petroleum and finance. It will also include the provincial ministers for agriculture, mines, IT, energy, revenue, planning and finance and investment. It will also include the provincial chief ministers.

The implementation committee will include a special assistant to the PM, a DG from the army and a secretary of the SIFC secretariat.
