Newly-elected Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab will take the oath of office on Monday.
The oath-taking ceremony will be organised at Gulshan-e-Jinnah polo ground where Sindh Election Commissioner Aijaz Chohan will swear in the mayor and deputy mayor.
Similar ceremonies will take place for officials elected throughout the province on the same day.
Wahab, who belongs to the Pakistan Peoples party, had beaten Jamaat-e-Islami’s Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman in the mayoral election on June 15. Wahab had received 173 votes to Naeem’s 160.
Although the election’s outcome had been decided when over 30 elected members refused to show up for the vote, JI had accused the PPP of using resources at its disposal through its provincial government to influence the election.
However, PPP had said that not getting all its allied voters to show up was the JI’s own fault.
JI workers had also clashed with PPP workers outside the arts council, where the elections took place.
