Kaghan highway closed for traffic as tourists flock to Babusar

Kaghan highway was shut down for traffic early on Thursday after landsliding blocked large sections of the road.

District Commissioner Mansehra said that the snowfall and landsliding continued to be a threat to the road and a public announcement would be made when the road was safe to travel.

The DC also said that tourists and locals should avoid travelling towards Babusar Top.

The notice about road blockage comes soon after authorities announced that Babusar had been opened to tourists after a seven month closure.

At an altitude of 13,700 feet above sea level, Babusar Top is inaccessible to tourists from October to June. However, tourists throng the area as soon as it becomes accessible after snow is removed in June. For now, the road access had to be cut off as soon as it began.

Travelling through the Babusar pass lets tourists glimpse the mountains of Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Balitastan simultaneously.
