Renowned filmmaker and Chime advisory board member, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, has joined forces with Gucci to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the Chime campaign, which advocates for gender equality and the empowerment of women worldwide.
To mark this milestone, Gucci enlisted the talents of Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, an Oscar-winning filmmaker, to direct an exclusive video series. The series features prominent figures such as Annie Lennox, Halle Bailey, Julia Roberts, Idris Elba, Alia Bhatt, Serena Williams, John Legend, and Hayek Pinault, alongside passionate activists, sharing their personal perspectives on equality.
The thought-provoking films will be available for streaming on Gucci’s social media platforms and official YouTube account.
Reflecting on her involvement with Chime for Change since 2013, Obaid-Chinoy expressed her alignment with the campaign’s mission and its three pillars of education, health, and justice.
She stressed how Chime has made a tangible impact, citing the construction of a girls’ school in her home country of Pakistan as just one example. Additionally, she witnessed the transformative work accomplished through key projects in Africa and South America.
What stands out to Obaid-Chinoy the most is Chime’s unique approach to building partnerships and investing in women.
The campaign goes beyond providing financial support by also advocating for women and enabling them to become champions for others.
Many of the women Chime has supported now hold positions on its board, highlighting the effectiveness of their model. The decade-long accomplishments of Chime serve as a reminder of the importance of advocating for individuals who strive to make a positive difference in the world.
As Gucci and the Chime campaign celebrate this significant anniversary, the collaboration with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy brings renewed attention to the crucial cause of gender equality and the ongoing efforts to empower women globally.
