The hike in inflation continued in March as inflation reached a historic high of 45.64%.
Inflation rose 0.96% on a week-to-week person.
According to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, price hikes were recorded in 28 items.
According to PBS, the price of tomatoes rose by Rs9/kg, price of potatoes rose by Rs3/kg, bananas rose by Rs7/kg.
The price of tea rose by Rs40, price of cooking oil rose by Rs 40 and price of 20kg flour bags rose by Rs43.
PBS also said that prices of 11 items decreased while prices of 12 items in the price basket remained stable.
Inflation has been on the rise in past months as fuel prices increase and rupee depreciates against the dollar.
The government is focusing its energies on reviving the IMF program to boost Pakistans forex reserves. However, IMF’s demands, including Rs170 billion in additional taxes, has contributed to rising inflation.
