Justice Qazi Faez Isa refused to hear any cases on Tuesday after grilling the Registrar Supreme Court over making changes to case schedules.
Justice Isa along with Justice Yahya Afridi summoned the registrar on Tuesday to ask how cases were being fixed for being hearing.
“We want transparency, how will there be transparency if registrar moves cases from one bench to the other?” Justice Isa remarked.
The registrar replied that cases were fixed after approval from the chief justice.
Justice Isa remarked that he was unable to proceed with cases from 2010 because the registrar was fixing cases at will.
He also wondered if the registrar was more powerful than a sitting judge.
“Can I get cases fixed over a call?” he asked.
Amanullah Kanrani, a former president of the SC Bar said that people are unable to get their cases fixed despite multiple requests.
When asked again why benches hearing cases are suddenly changed, the reigstrar said that the changes were made based on verbal orders were communicated by the CJ’s staff officer.
Justice Isa then said that he would no longer hear cases for the day.
