MIRPURKHAS: A man’s trying to buy inexpensive flour paid for it with his life after he was crushed in a stampede as buyers tried to rush to the front of the queue in Mirpurkhas on Saturday.
Arshang, a father of, left home early in the morning to buy inexpensive flour (sasta aata) for his family.
He went to the stall set up in a park adjacent to the office of the deputy commissioner. While in line, there was a rush to the front of the queue, with people trying to get stocks for themselves before it ran out.
In the midst of it all, Arshand fell over and was crushed under the feet of the people gathered around the stall.
His inconsolable family protested with Arshang’s body outside the Mirpurkhas Press Club and bocked the Hyderabad road for almost four hours until the arrival of the Deputy Commissioner Zainul Abideen Memon.
Followng assurances from the DC, the protesters ended their sit-in. The assurances included paying for the upcoming wedding of Ashrang’s daughter.
Relatives said that Ashrang was trying to get the inexpensive flour in order to save money for his daughter’s wedding.
They urged the government to put better management in place to ensure such accidents do not take place.
