Two labourers were killed and another injured in an explosion at a mine in Lower Orakzai tribal district’s Khuno Sam area on Saturday.
According to District Police Officer Nazir Khan, three laborers were trapped inside the mine following the explosion.
He said rescue workers, police and locals rushed to the scene of the explosion to clear the rubble and recovered two bodies.
The third labourer was found alive and was sent to the local hospital in an injured state.
According to Khan, all three labourers were from Shangla district.
Last month, at least nine colliers were killed in a coal mine blast in Doli, Lower Orakzai area of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa’s Hangu district. Subsequently, a government team from the mineral development department had inspected the site of the incident and said that the explosion took place “due to gas sparks inside the mine”.
