African student delighted with side hustle in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: Cedric Assogba is from the small West African country of Benin, roughly 8,000 kms from his current location: Peshawar in Pakistan’s scenic north.

He is one of hundreds of international students enrolled at universities in the provincial capital. Alongside the M.Phil in Biotechnology that he is pursuing at the University of Agriculture, Cedric works at a local steak house.

He landed at the restaurant after failing to find a job that was more in line with his field of study. But that hasn’t stopped Cedric from making the most of the opportunity that he came across on his Facebook research group.

“I’m enjoying my time working here,” he said.

Cedric has started learning Pashto and Urdu from his friends so he can converse with the customers more efficiently and tell them about the menu.

His courtesy and diligence has endeared him to customers as well as the steakhouse management.

“He’s a jolly and wonderful young man. Most of our clients don’t have any problems communicating with him,” the restaurant owner said.
