The government has decided to crack down on individuals involved in spreading immoral content, harassment and character assassination through social media.
Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah chaired a meeting on Friday in which issues related to harassment on social media, uploading of immoral content and blackmailing were reviewed.
The interior minister issued directives to the director general of the Federal Investiation Agency (FIA) to take strict and immediate action against those involved in such activities.
In the meeting, it was also decided to form a working group to bring necessary amendments in the Pakistan Electronic Crimes (Peca) Act, 2016.
The FIA has also issued contact numbers where citizens can lodge their complaints.
Rana Sanaullah said that tarnishing the reputation of citizens through insulting content on social media and character assassination is not acceptable in any case, strict action will be taken against those involved in such crimes.
The interior minister said that the citizens should send their complaints to the contact numbers of FIA, with the agency instructed to process the complaints without delay.
