LAHORE: In an apparent case of murder-suicide, a man shot his sister dead before taking his own life over a property dispute in the Nawankot area of the provincial capital.
Abid Ali, who was deputed as a naib qasid in the Gujranwala police, had an argument with his sister Sajida over their five marla property (1,360 square feet).
Shots were fired while Abid’s nephew, the deceased woman’s son, was out to get breakfast for the family.
“I went down at around 8am to get breakfast. When I got back after 10 minutes, I found that my maternal uncle had shot my mom twice and himself once,” he told Aaj News.
“There was a property dispute. I believe that was the reason why my maternal uncle shot dead my mother before taking his own life,” said the victim’s son.
Neighbours say they heard gunshots after which they rushed to the house and found the bodies of the siblings.
“They have been living in a rented house in this locality for around 15 years,” said one neighbour who rushed to the scene upon hearing gunshots.
Family members said that the two siblings had been trying to resolve the property dispute that resulted in the apparent murder-suicide.
Police arrived at the scene to collect evidence and say investigation is underway.
