ECP starts delimitation process to ensure timely elections

The Election Commission of Pakistan Monday announced the schedule for the delimitation process of the National and provincial assemblies for the general elections.

According to the ECP spokesperson, no new unit would be made across the country to ensure the timely completion of the delimitation process.

The spokesperson further said that provincial committees for the delimitation process would be formed by April 16, adding that the provincial commissioner would be given the constituency map and other relative documents from April 11.

He further said that training sessions for delimitation would also be conducted from April 20 to April 24.

The spokesperson said that the list of delimitation would initially be published on May 28, 2022, adding that from May 29 to June 28 the people of the constituency would be able to express their reservations regarding the delimitation process and also bring forth proposals, if any, to the ECP.

The ECP would hear and announce its decisions regarding the proposals and reservations from July 1 to July 30.

The spokesperson further said that the final list of delimitation would be published on August 3, 2022.

Earlier, the ECP had blamed PTI-led government for delay the delimitation process and had claimed that the body had written multiple letters to the government and other concerned authorities but the delimitation process could not be completed in time.
