Twitter users laud PM Imran for “lifting pressure off his people’s shoulders”

Social media users expressed relief and lauded Prime Minister Imran Khan when he announced reduction in petrol and electricity prices, easy loans for business and houses, tax concessions on business activities and internship stipends in his speech to the nation on Monday.

“Big relief in current situation.. Thank you Kaptaan,” said one user.

“The steps taken by PM Imran Khan to provide relief to the nation are commendable,” said another.

The premier said during his televised address that prices of petrol and diesel would be reduced by Rs10 per litre and electricity tariff would be decreased by Rs5 per unit. He also talked about the global situation amid Russia-Ukraine crisis, the Prevention of Electronic Crime Act (Peca) Ordinance, various incentives and programmes for students and farmers, as well as the country's foreign policy.

One person praised the PM and said, “Indeed only a responsible and vigilant leader can run the government to the best of the masses' interest.”

Some Twitterati are thoroughly impressed by the premier for “working for the betterment of the people of Pakistan.”

But others claim that they’ve seen this happen before.

“Same old movie is being repeated for us,” said Twitter user Naveed Nadeem.

One person shared a clip from a movie where a hotelier is seen in conversation with their chief minister, who tell them to increase the price of tea three times. When his advisor says this would make the people every angry, the minister says, “the people would come to us, the hotelier would also come us and we will tell them to decrease the price. It’s a win-win situation.”
