Let families at least file FIRs against enforced disappearances: Justice Isa

KARACHI: The apex court on Friday sought explanation from the Sindh government for filing petition against the FIR regarding the enforced disappearances.

A case against the First Information Report lodged regarding the missing persons was heard in the Supreme Court Karachi Registry.

During the hearing Justice Qazi Faiz Isa grilled prosecutor general Sindh over filing a petition against said FIR , saying let the families file at least an FIR against the enforced disappearances.

Justice Isa asked if the Sindh government was the facilitator of the abductors.

"Stop making mockery of the court," he added.

Justice Yahya said it was regretful that the Sindh government had filed a petition against lodging an FIR. He remarked that at least give the families of missing persons the right to include the names of the abductors.

Muhammad Iqbal Patel, brother of missing Muhammad Nadeem Patel, told the court that Counter Terrorism Department in-charge Raja Umar Khitab had kidnapped his brother.

The court directed an FIR to be lodged against Khitab for abducting the citizen.

Justice Isa then asked the prosecutor general if Khitab was running the whole department. Instead of Khitab why was the prosecutor general Sindh filing the petition against the FIR, the judge asked.

The court directed the prosecutor general to submit an explanation for filing the petition against the FIR on Monday.
