The bodies of at least 14 workers were retrieved from a chemical factory in Korangi’s Mehran Town where a fire erupted on Friday, reported Aaj News. They said many people were still stuck inside the premises.
Two siblings and five people of a family died in the tragedy caused by a short circuit. Out of the total deceased six bodies were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center.
According to a rescue team, they have successfully put out the fire inside the factory with nine fire fighting vehicles. They added that the staircase leading to the roof of the building was closed.
An eye-witnesses told Aaj News that fire brigades arrived at the spot after a delay of three hours.
Meanwhile, a large number of factory workers’ relatives reached the spot.
According to the factory manager, who resides in Lahore, at least 25 people worked on the floor where the fire erupted. No worker was successful in escaping from the floor, he added.
Another gate of the factory, which could be used to leave from the premises, was closed, therefore there was only one gate to leave the factory.
