KARACHI: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin Friday said the economy of the country was heading in a right direction.
In a meeting with Governor Sindh, Imran Ismail at the Governor House, the Minister said the international organizations were acknowledging Pakistan's economic development, according to a news release.
He said increasing the exports of the country was top most priority of government.
Governor Sindh Imran Ismail on the occasion said initiatives of Finance Ministry for protection of small and large scale businesses during the outbreak of pandemic COVID-19 and Roshan Digital Accounts for overseas Pakistanis were commendable.
He said the rise in foreign exchange rates was an expression of confidence of overseas Pakistanis in the government's economic policies.
Imran Ismail said ease of doing business and providing facilities to investors were among the priorities of federal government.
The meeting also discussed in detail the overall economic situation of the country. Member National Assembly Aftab Hussain Siddiqui was also present on the occasion.
Earlier, addressing the businessmen and investors in Karachi this morning at Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, he said formulation of policies to facilitate business community is among the priorities, as it will result in improving economy which is needed to attract investment.
He said special attention is being given on the improvement of fourteen areas including power sector, textile and energy.
Shaukat Tarin said FBR has been asked not to harass businessmen while other means are being used to increase tax collection by collecting data through electricity bills and other channels.
Addressing the press conference in Karachi on Friday, he said the country can progress with collective efforts and contribution from the businessmen.
The Minister said the government, traders and industrialists have to work together for the economic development of the country.
He said the Government has taken various steps to allay the reservations and fears of the traders' community and that he will meet the traders of Karachi on quarterly basis.
He said the international organizations are appreciating the economic growth of the country.
Shaukat Tarin said government has collected the record of non-tax payers and steps are being taken for them.
He said the government charted out small, medium and long-term projects to reform the economy of the country.
