Pakistan slams former Canadian minister's remarks

Pakistan's Foreign Office on Sunday slammed comments made by a former Canadian minister, Chris Alexander, who spoke about Pakistan's meddling in Afghanistan's affairs.

The Foreign Office was responding to a tweet by Alexander in which he posted a picture of what he claimed were Taliban fighters waiting to cross from Pakistan into Afghanistan. He also used a hashtag calling for sanctions on Pakistan.

The Foreign Office said it planned to take the matter up with the Canadian government.

Alexander hit back to their tweet:

This is not the first time Mr Alexander has criticized Pakistan's role in Afghanistan.

Just a day earlier he posted an article from TOLO News of Prime Minister Imran Khan's criticism of US policy on the Taliban. He described Khan as "an utter fraud and shameless liar of no ability..."

He also wrote an oped in the The Globe and Mail describing the war in Afghanistan as "doomed from the start."

In that piece he described Khan as "one of the Taliban’s most vociferous backers" who was "sitting back while the army chief who won him political power extinguishes media freedoms, while orchestrating the Taliban’s new push for power."
