PPP, PML-N allege rigging in AJK elections

Opposition parties on Sunday accused the government for "rigging" in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections whose polls closed earlier this evening.

PPP Senator Sherry Rehman said the centre was engaging in "systematic rigging" in an attempt to steal the election.

She claimed that police uprooted their party's camp and also said that PTI workers had fired on a PPP worker's car.

"There is a clear difference between the voter lists of several polling stations," she said, adding that they've sent a complaint in writing to the Election Commission.

She also tweeted on the subject.

PML-N also spoke about irregularities from various districts.

The party's spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb claimed that PTI workers attacked PML-N workers to rig the election.

Aurangzeb said that police arrested their party workers despite them being assaulted.

She also said the Election Commission in AJK would not accept her party's written complaints and would only do so once the chief election commissioner allowed them to do so.

"Complaints of violence and rigging do not meet the criteria for a transparent election," she said.

"Complaints of polling agents being prevented from entering polling stations and closure of polling are increasing," she said in a statement.
