WASHINGTON: The United States of America has announced to ship 2.5 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine Moderna to Pakistan.
The White House press secretary Jen Psaki told the reporters during her media briefing on Monday. She said that the US would ship 2.5 million doses of the Moderna vaccine to Pakistan. The vaccine will be delivered under the UN vaccination programme COVAX.
Earlier this month, US President Joe Biden had announced to give 80 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccines under the UN-initiated COVAX facility. The While House divulged the details of sharing 25 million doses with the world.
But as per the directions of President Biden, the US would share 80 million vaccines globally by the end of June. But the Biden administration said that it would keep 25% in reserve for emergencies in the US and for its distribution among US allies and partners.
“As long as this pandemic is raging anywhere in the world, the American people will still be vulnerable,” Biden said in a statement. “And the United States is committed to bringing the same urgency to international vaccination efforts that we have demonstrated at home.”
