WASHINGTON: The daily coronavirus cases continue to drop in the United States as multiple states reopen gradually. In the past couple of months, the most adversely affected nation by the COVID-19 has been consistently seeing decreased new cases and casualties related to the deadly flu bug.
US accounts for almost 15% of global Covid casualties while over 18% of the reported global cases are Americans.
In the past 24 hours, as per the daily Covid updates provided by the Johns Hopkins University, 12,710 new cases were detected in the United States while 170 people succumbed to the novel viral infection in the country.
Yesterday's tallies take the US's total confirmed cases to a staggering 33,474,692 while the death tally, which is expected to exceed 600,000 today, currently stands at 599,945. It must be mentioned that no other country has reported more coronavirus cases or deaths.
The coronavirus situation of the US remained extremely critical for over a year as record cases and casualties were reported in the country. Especially, in late December last year and the first couple of weeks of January this year, record numbers were documented. But thanks to stringent lockdown measures and effective mass vaccination drives across the fifty states of the US, the crisis is well under control now.
Numbers show that the country has almost flattened the Covid curve. In the past week, 96,596 cases and 2,403 deaths were reported. At the virus peak in the country, twice the number of cases and deaths were being reported daily.
The remarkable United States recovery is a prime example of how effective the vaccination drive can prove to be in curtailing the spread of the virus. Just in a matter of few months, Joe Biden administration has been able to fully vaccinate over 44% of the country's population which has been the biggest factor in reduced infectivity in the region. According to the Johns Hopkins University, the latest Covid-19 vaccine stats of the US are as follows:
Doses Administered: 310,645,827 People Fully Vaccinated: 144,919,339 Percentage Of Population Fully Vaccinated So Far: 44.15%
