ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Interior Sheikh Rashid on Friday while expressing concern over the increasing number of terrorist attacks in Islamabad, said that important steps are being taken this week to make Islamabad a safe zone.
Sheikh Rashid has taken notice of Islamabad firing incident and sought report from the inspector general (IG).
In a statement, the minister said that increasing number of terrorist attacks in federal capital is alarming. As many as nine police personnel have been martyred so far in Islamabad, he told.
Informing about the steps taken to make the federal capital safe, the Interior Minister said that 150 mobile Eagle Squads are being connected to Safe City this week while the number of vehicles is being increased from four to 20.
Sheikh Rashid further said that the fencing along Pakistan-Iran border will be completed till the end of this year.
The reaction came after two security officers embraced martyrdom when some unidentified persons opened fire at a police patrol in Islamabad on Thursday night.
The martyred police officials were identified as Bashir and Ishtiaq. DIG operations and other police personnel reached the spot after the incident.
Talking to media, DIG operations said that all the evidence is being collected from the crime scene and the accused will be arrested soon.
