In the past 24 hours, India saw a record rise in the number of newly detected novel coronavirus cases as more than 126,000 people tested positive.
It's the country's highest-ever single day tally surpassing the record set a couple of days ago. Also, unsurprisingly, India's yesterday tally of new cases remained the biggest number of new infections reported across the world in the last 24 hours.
The third wave of Covid has been wreaking havoc on the second-largest nation on the earth. Surging cases have forced the government to implement lockdown restrictions once again in Covid hotspots.
According to the statistics provided by the federal government, as of today, almost 13 million Indians have tested positive for the flu bug while over 166,000 have succumbed to the deadly viral infection. It must be noted that these are only the documented figures, actual figures are expected to be many times more.
The number of active cases is approaching 1 million in India as 910,264 people are currently battling the viral infection. While the positive news is that the total recoveries have reached 11,848,905.
