UK reeling from Covid as cases approach 4 million

The first case of COVID-19 in the United Kingdom was reported 376 days ago on 31st January 2020 but the country is still reeling from the deadly viral infection.

In the last 24 hours, 13,494 new cases were detected in the UK taking the total tally to 3,998,655. The most worrying thing is that the coronavirus-related fatalities in the country are still being reported in huge numbers daily. Just yesterday, 678 Britons succumbed to the Covid-19.

  • According to the latest Covid-19 statistics provided by the website "Worldometers", the details of the UK are as follows:

    Total Cases: 3,998,655
Cases in last 24 hours: 13,494

    Total Deaths: 115,529
Deaths in last 24 hours: 678

    Total Recovered: 2,056,261

    Active Cases: 1,826,865

    Critical Cases: 3,132

Although the UK is in strict lockdown for the past several weeks, the authorities are still unable to contain the viral infection.

One positive development that is happening in the UK is the extensive coronavirus vaccination campaign. According to some estimates, over 13 million doses have been administered in the country so far. But only time will tell how effective Covid vaccines prove to be in thwarting the spread of the coronavirus infection, till then strict following of SOPs is the only way Britons can flatten the corona curve.
