Yesterday proved to be the deadliest day in the Covid-19 pandemic yet. A staggering 13,542 people lost their lives due to the viral disease across the world.

Previously, the highest one-day global tally of coronavirus-related fatalities was recorded a few days ago on December 10th when 12,950 people succumbed to the deadly disease.

It's been almost a year since the first case of COVID-19 was discovered in Wuhan, China but the flu bug is still rampant across the globe. To date, over 74 million infections and 1.6 million deaths have been reported globally. It must be noted that health experts believe that the actual figures are much bigger than the reported ones.

According to the website Worldometers, the latest global coronavirus statistics are as follows:

In the last 24 hours, the United States had the most coronavirus-related fatalities as 3,486 Americans died taking the national death tally to over 314,000. Brazil and Mexico were second and third worst-hit countries with 968 and 801 deaths respectively.
