Upon FDA approval, I'd take Pfizer vaccine: Dr. Fauci

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the distinguished American immunologist, has welcomed the news of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine breakthrough. He said that he trusts Pfizer and would willingly take the vaccine upon the approval of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

On Tuesday, when asked by a media outlet regarding the development of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine, Fauci said he trusts the systems in place to approve a potential vaccine. He further said that upon the approval of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) he would take the Pfizer vaccine and would also recommend it to his family members.

Dr. Fauci has served as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases since 1984 and has also been a key member of President Trump's White House Coronavirus Task Force since January. He is highly respected in the global medical community, so his endorsement of the vaccine is a big deal.

Earlier this week, Pfizer announced that early data showed its vaccine candidate to be 90% effective. Being hopeful regarding the Pfizer vaccine, Fauci said:

I am going to look at the data, but I trust Pfizer. I trust the FDA, if they look at this data, and they say this data is solid, let's go ahead and approve it.
