Yesterday, the world set a new one-day record for newly reported coronavirus cases.
The novel coronavirus is still wreaking havoc after over 10 months of its origin in Wuhan, China. A serious spike in the viral infections is seen in the past couple of weeks as consistently over 300,000 new cases are being reported daily.
According to the COVID-19 statistics provided by the website Worldometer, the highest number of cases in the past 24 hours was reported in India among all countries. India reported 73,196 new cases while the United States reported the second-highest new cases' tally (60,558).
To date, the global coronavirus cases have exceeded 37 million and the virus is showing no signs of slowing down. Also, over 1 million people have succumbed to the viral disease.
Almost every continent is ravaged by the flu bug. The virus is still rampant in the United States, India, and Latin America. But the most alarming thing is that Europe has been seeing the second wave of virus, as the number of new cases has skyrocketed in the past couple of weeks. This has led to authorities shutting down public places once again. This is a wake-up call for every country to keep the second wave of coronavirus in mind as they lift restrictions on public gatherings and open businesses.
