US President Donald Trump has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize to be awarded in 2021. The nomination was made by Christian Tybring-Gjedde, a member of the Norwegian Parliament.
Tybring-Gjedde cited Mr. Trump's extraordinary efforts in achieving a peace deal between UAE and Israel as the main reason for his nomination. He further pointed out the Donald Trump is one of the few Presidents of the United States who have not begun an international war during his tenure. Christian also praised Mr. Trump for a large withdrawal of U.S. troops from the Middle East.
The Nobel Peace Prize is one of the most prestigious humanitarian awards in the world. There were 318 nominations for the prize in 2020. The Nobel Committee has issued instructions for nominators to not divulge their names or identities of nominations for 50 years. However, not all nominators abide by these instructions.
If Mr. Trump wins the award he will be among 4 other U.S. Presidents who have won the Nobel Peace Prize. The latest President who has won the prize being President Barrack Obama in 2009. The selection of the award will be announced in October 2021 with the chosen candidate receiving their award in December 2021.
