India reports the highest single-day tally of COVID-19 cases globally

India has been one of the epicenters of coronavirus infection for several weeks now.

In the last 24 hours, India recorded the most number of cases globally. Over 56,000 cases were reported in the country surpassing the USA's tally of 55,148, and Brazil's 54,685.

India has reported a total of almost 2 million cases so far making it the third-most adversely affected country by COVID-19. Only the US and Brazil have reported more infections to date.

The virus has been devastating the second-most populous nation in the world for almost six months. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh are the top 3 worst-hit states of India. Followed closely by Karnataka and Delhi.

Over 40,739 Indians have lost their lives to COVID-19 while over 1.3 million have fully recovered from the disease.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been criticized harshly for his policies regarding coronavirus spread. The opposition blames unclear government policies have resulted in such a huge rise in the number of viral cases as well as deaths.
