Coronavirus is still quite rampant in the United States. According to the website Worldometer which is providing a live count of corona cases since the beginning of the pandemic, the total number of US viral cases has surpassed the figure of 4 million. As of today, the figure is 4,100,875 to be exact.
146,183 people have succumbed to the disease in the country home to over 33 million people. But on the bright side, almost half of the infected people have fully recovered from the disease, over 1,942,637 people.
America has been by far the most adversely affected country by COVID-19 accounting for over quarter global viral infections. Several states in the country have more than a hundred thousand cases with New York, California, and Florida leading with the most number of total cases.
The past week or so has been particularly dreadful for the Americans as the country has been consistently reporting over 60,000 new cases every day with the figure reaching a record 74,987 on the 17th of July. 71,967 cases were reported just in the last 24 hours.
Despite the outrageous spread of the virus in the country, President Donald Trump has repeatedly dismissed the pandemic as a threat, reiterating it in an interview on Sunday that the virus would simply disappear on its own. His administration has been criticized harshly by opposition parties and the majority of the public for not taking COVID-19 seriously and for their inability to contain the outbreak.
