II Chundrigar road reopened for traffic after attacks at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) were successfully countered by law enforcement agencies on Monday.
Four terrorists who were linked to the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) attacked the PSX, located in the financial hub of the country, Karachi. However, owing to the quick response from the LEAs no terrorist was able to enter PSX, as all were killed outside the premises.
The PSX on Monday confirmed that terrorists attacked the PSX compound today. "There was an attack on the PSX compound earlier today. The situation is still unfolding and management, with the help of security forces, is managing the security and controlling the situation," said PSX in a statement.
A total of eleven persons which include four security personnel of the PSX, one police Sub Inspector and two civilians were martyred in the horrific attack. Attackers were armed with explosive material, hand grenades and automatic weapons.
Despite the attacks, trading continued at the PSX. The market remained stable against expectations during the attack and at one point the KSE-100 index even cleared 34,000 points. “No doubt on resilience. PSX trading did not stop during the attack. Salute to the security team to not let terrorists enter the main building,” said financial expert, Ali Khizar.
