As the novel Coronavirus spread around the globe, many countries have been affected by this deadly virus, COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus-19) is a new strain of coronavirus (a large family of viruses) that had previously not been identified in humans. It first emerged in Wuhan, China, in December 2019, and has since been declared as an outbreak by the World Health Organization (WHO).
There is currently no vaccine to prevent coronavirus disease, however, the precautionary measures can help protect against this disease. Recently Dr. Faisal Mahmood, Consultant Infectious Diseases of Agha Khan hospital recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases,
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
