Sindh Assembly passes finance bill 2019-20

KARACHI: Finance bill for FY2019-20 in Sindh Assembly was approved with majority opinions after the approval of new financial year budget on Thursday.

According to the details, the Sindh Assembly passed the Rs1.217 trillion deficit-free budget for the next year. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad thanked the assembly members on the approval of budget and finance bill.

According to the finance bill, taxes were increased on the rent of property houses, factories, video shops and professional income tax. Vendors, tailors, car parking fee and machinery equipment also were affected with increased tax in the bill.

Five per cent tax was also imposed on online business and marketing. CM Murad also announced additional salary to the employees of the finance department, revenue and Sindh Assembly Secretariat, who served in the budget preparation.

MQM leader Muhammad Hussain expressing on the taxes proposed in bill said that poor people will suffer due to these taxes but government did not pay any heed to his point.

All the amendments proposed by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on finance bill were rejected while the protest continued due to exchange of bitter words between Leader of the Opposition and Chief Minister in the provincial assembly. —NNI
