Here are 8 countries where the next year is not 2018, have a look.

Thailand

People in Thailand will ring in the year 2561. Thailand lives according to the Buddhist Lunar calendar, which started when Buddha achieved nirvana.

Ethiopia

People in Ethiopia will ring in the year 2011. The Ethiopian calendar is 8 years behind the regular one. It has 13 months, in which 12months have 30 days but the last month just has 5 or 6 days depending on the leap year. Their day starts at sunrise.

Israel

People in Israel will ring in the year 5778. Israel uses Hebrew calendar, their months start with the new moon. First day of the year can only be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday. For making it work, they extend the previous year.

Pakistan

People in Pakistan the year 1439 has already started. In Pakistan, Islamic Calendar is used to determine the dates of religious holidays. The chronology starts from Hijra, the date of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and first Muslims’ emigration to Madina (622 AD).

Iran

People in Iran will ring in the year 1396 as per their official calendar, which is Persian calendar. This calendar was created by a group of astronomers. Its chronology starts from Hijra but based on solar year.

India

People in India will ring in the year 1939. Indian calendar was introduced in 1957, which is based on the calculation of the Saka Era.

Japan

People will ring in the year 30 in Japan. There are two chronologies, one starts with Christ’s birth and second is traditional one. The latter is based on the years of the Japanese emperors’ reigns, starts from the year 1989 when throne belongs to Emperor Akihito.

China

In China people will ring in the year of 4716. They used Cambodia, Mongolia, Vietnam and other Asian countries. The chronology starts from the date Emperor Huangdi started his reign in 2637 BC. It is based on Astronomical cycle of Jupiter.
