Web Desk: International film festival of India IFFI dropped Pakistani film “Sawaanâ€, which was to be present in the world cinema at the 48th IFFI.
Filmaker Farhan Alam received an email from senior programmer Deepika Suseelan on 4th November 2017, which reads as, “Due to Scheduling constraints, we are unable to showcase some of the titles originally planned.†Moreover “The festival would make appropriate and immediate arrangements of the DCP of the film to be returnedâ€.
According to the Farhan Alam, he got an official letter on 16 October 2017 from direct of festival Sunit Tandon, the letter was, “the festival was honoured to present the film in the cinema of the world sectionâ€
While interviewing to The Hindu newspaper, he explained, “I was excited to take part in the festival and share my film with an Indian audience. It would have been an honour for me to share my work and I was hoping to meet filmmakers from India as well as around the world,â€
“It was very disappointing and heartbreaking for me to hear this news as I was looking forward to attending this festival,†he added.
Sawaan has won six awards in international festivals. It is also Pakistan’s entry to Oscars 2018 in the Best Foreign Film category. The film story is based on the true story of a polio-stricken child, who faced difficulties in desert.
