Sensitive issues: ‘Speak logically’, Nisar tells foreign minister

Former Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Saturday advised Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif to "speak logically" on important and sensitive issues instead of delivering speculation-based statements.

Responding to Asif's TV interview in which he repeated his statement that "we need to put our own house in order" with reference to US President Donald Trump's allegations against Pakistan, Nisar said the responsible people in the government need to keep in view the facts and figures before delivering statement on sensitive issues.

"This is very strange that our army chief is saying that Pakistan has already rendered huge sacrifices in the war against terrorism and now the world needs to 'do more', but our defence minister and minister for interior believe that Pakistan should 'do more'," Nisar was quoted by his spokesman as having said. He said that both have been holding the ministerial portfolios for the last four-and-a-half-year. "Did they ever raise the issue [putting our house in order] in any cabinet meeting or National Security Committee?" he asked.

"Do the ministers know that Indian media gave huge coverage to their statements and used these as endorsement of the Indian government's stance that all the problems are lying in Pakistan," he further asked. The former interior minister said that despite many success stories with respect to national security, there are still some loopholes that need to be fixed through consultations instead of making public statements.

"National security issues are sensitive matters and we need to keep the national interest in the view prior to making a statement on such issues," he further said. "Unfortunately, the objective of these statements is to indirectly target the intelligence agencies and Pakistan Army. If this is true, one should have courage to speak openly instead of making ambiguous statements," he further said.
