Iran for further cooperation to fight against terrorism

TEHRAN: Speaker of Iranian Parliament Ali Larijani, calling for further cooperation to fight against terrorism, said the Islamic Republic believes in Pakistan's effective role to establish security in the region.

Larijani made these remarks in a joint press conference on Saturday with Pakistani counterpart Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.

Describing his talks with speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan very constructive and comprehensive, Larijani said "the main topics in talks focused on expansion of economic relations between the two countries; achieving trade relations with value of five billion dollars requires different and active mechanisms; the two countries have taken some steps toward the goal."

"We exchanged views on boosting bilateral ties, especially in economic fields; Pakistan wants a safe and successful Iran and so does the Islamic Republic," Ayaz Sadiq said.

It is our collective responsibility to work for the unity of Muslims and the unity of the region, Ayaz Sadiq said, adding that they discussed counter-terrorism, the economic, trade and transit issues, as well as Iran's joining to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

He also called for establishing good ties between the armed forces of the two countries.

"We asked Mr. Larijani to send Iranian students to the Pakistan Military Academy; as we have to work harder to increase the level of cooperation to national interests."-APP
