Ayyan Ali's counsel fails to produce SC order in SHC on ECL fiasco

KARACHI: Pakistan Model Ayan Alis lawyer has failed to produce a copy of the Supreme Courts (SC) order that rejected the Ministry of Interiors appeal to keep her name in the Exit Control List (ECL).

The models lawyer filed a contempt petition against the Ministry of Interior in the Sindh High Court (SHC). However, when Justice Farooq Shah asked for a copy of the SCs order that upheld SHCs decision to remove Alis name from the ECL, the lawyer failed to do so.

The court ordered the lawyer on Monday to produce the copy on March 3.

On January 30, the Supreme Court had allowed the model to travel abroad. Her lawyer had said that she wanted to travel to Dubai to meet her ailing mother.

Sindh High Court judge Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto had given a verdict for removing Ayyans name from the ECL on January 19, 2017.

Ayyan Ali was arrested on March 14, 2015 on charges of money-laundering after customs officials had recovered over 500,000 US dollars from her luggage at Islamabad airport before she could reportedly board a flight to Dubai.
