Qatar seeks to distance itself from Panamagate

Ambassador Saqr bin Mubarak Al Mansouri has said that Qatari government has nothing to do with the letters of Prince Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani which he wrote regarding business ties with the ruling Sharif family and the copies of which were produced in the Supreme Court regarding the Panama Papers leaks case.

In his exclusive interview with Shaukat Piracha, anchor person and host of Aaj News talk show Rubaroo, Al Mansouri said that those could have been personal letters from Prince Hamad.

Answering a question, the Qatari ambassador further said, the Panama Papers leaks case was an internal matter of Pakistan and Qatari government strictly follows the policy of non-meddling into internal affairs of Pakistan. He said he had read a lot about the letters written by Prince Hamad in the newspapers but the Qatari government had no connection with his letters.

"As many as 600 companies of Pakistan and Qatar have joint businesses and they correspond with each other," he said. Ambassador Saqr clarified that letters from Prince Hamad had not come through Qatari foreign affairs ministry or Islamabad embassy. His clarification has engendered a renewed war of words between the PML-N minister Marriyum Aurangzeb and PTI Chairman Imran Khan.
