Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Wednesday predicted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's disqualification in coming 15 to 20 days as a result of the ongoing hearings in Panama Leaks case in the Supreme Court and advised Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to think over changing its leadership instead of lawyers in the apex court.Â
"The case [Panama leaks] is coming to its final conclusion and will be culminated in disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in coming 15 to 20 days...and the PML-N better to think over changing of its leadership instead of its lawyers team in the Supreme Court," PTI Spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry said while talking to reporters outside the Supreme Court after the hearing of the Panama Leaks case.
He also advised the PML-N to call meeting of its parliamentary party and consider electing a new one for the top slot.
He claimed that the PML-N has not produced any single evidence in its defence for the last eight months. He said that PTI lawyer Naeem Bokhari raised nine issues in the Wednesday's hearing in the apex court, adding it indicates the court may summon the Prime Minister for his 'contradictory' statements.
He said the issue of selling out of Gulf Steel Mills was discussed in detail in the court, adding that the PML-N should come up with explanation as to how the Mills was sold out in $9 million, which was in debt of $21 million.
Fawad Chaudhry also welcomed the court's decision of day-to-day hearing in the Panama Leaks case and also congratulated the nation in this regard, saying it was done on the PTIs' demand.
He also maintained that the PML-N wants the apex court's proceedings should not be made public and wants an in-camera proceeding of the Panama Leaks case.
"The Supreme Court is an open court and its proceedings cannot be kept in secret. If you don't want the proceeding to be made public, go and take the case up in the military courts," he said, while referring to the PML-N criticism on the PTI's chief media talks on the case.
Dr Arif Alvi said that the PTI submitted more 'original' documents before the apex court which, according to him, will establish that Maryam Nawaz is the owner of Minerva offshore company. Earlier, PTI leaders Naeemul Haq and Fawad Chaudhry exchanged harsh words when the latter started briefing the media persons without waiting for the former. However, on the intervention of Babar Awan, the matter was resolved.
