Toxic liquor incident: Death toll rises to 44

TOBA TEK SINGH: The death toll of toxic liquor incident in Muhallah Mubarikabad reached to 44 while
the condition of 39 others was stated to be serious in Allied Hospital, Civil Hospital, Faisalabad and DHQ Hospital TT Singh.

According to MS DHQ hospital TT Singh, Dr Muhammad  Asim Saleemi, 149 people were affected in the incident
which occurred on Monday evening. There was still emergency in the hospital and the best available medical treatment was being provided to the affected persons, he added.

DCO TT Singh Amir Ejaz Akbar said that those injured were being treated at Allied Hospital, Civil Hospital Faisalabad, and DHQ Hospital TT Singh where their condition was stated to be serious. On information, Rescue 1122, police and civil administration reached the localities and shifted the affected people to the hospitals.

In the localities of mohallah Mubarikabad, and other adjoining areas several people consumed liquor in connection
with Christmas celebrations, and soon after dozens of them became severely ill and were shifted to hospitals.

Meanwhile, City police have registered a case and launched a crackdown against toxic liquor sellers in the
district. Some men were rounded up as well, said police sources.

DPO Muhammad Usman Gondal said that homeopathic doctor Muhammad Sardar has been arrested on the suspicion of mixing poisonous pills in liquor and the facts will emerge after the completion of investigation.

DCO and DPO TT Singh have said that investigation of the incident had been started on war-footing and those
involved in the incident would be taken to task.

Twenty two, out of 44 dead have been identified as Sajid Masih, Rizwan Masih, Yaqoob Masih, Amin Masih, Shehbaz
Masih, Imran, Daniyal, Younis Masih, Asif Razzaq, Aslam Rehmat, Basharat Inayat, Usman Samuel, Yousaf Gulzar, Tanvir Masih, Akram Masih, Yousaf Masih, Kishan, Sajjawal, Rizwan, Latif, Jabbar Sharif and Basharat, hospitals sources said. -APP
