ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court on Friday adjourned the hearing of infamous Panamagate case till first week of January, Aaj News reported.
A five-member bench led by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali resumed hearing of the Panama Leaks case on petitions filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and other parties.
During the hearing of the case on Friday, the Chief Justice said there are two days left before his reference and then there will be winter vacations for the judges. He said, therefore, the bench will be reconstituted to hear the case.
Citing the significance of the case, the bench said it is not going to be an easy judgement.
In the last hearing, Supreme Court sought opinion from the parties over constitution of a commission for investigation into Panama Papers.
Earlier, the counsels of the prime minister and his children supported the idea of the formation of commission on Panama Papers. Salman Butt and Akram Sheikh said it is up to the court to decide as to how the investigation may be carried forward.
The counsel of the PTI, Naeem Bukhari, however opposed the creation of the commission saying the bench should decide the case.
On Thursday, Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan rejected the Supreme Court’s proposal to form commission. Khan said, he would only accept a commission on the condition that Nawaz Sharif must resign first as the prime minister of Pakistan. He urged an existing larger bench of the court to continue hearing the case.
